How often should I replace my furnace filter?2025-11-26T13:58:41+00:00

Most homes should replace their furnace filter every 1–3 months, depending on pets, allergies, and system use. A dirty filter can reduce efficiency by up to 15%, increase energy bills, and even cause the furnace to shut down.

How do I know if geothermal is right for my home?2025-11-26T01:28:35+00:00

Geothermal is especially beneficial if you:
• Have high heating and cooling bills
• Plan to stay in your home long term
• Have space for a ground loop (yard or land)
We offer geothermal consultations to evaluate your home and provide options

Do geothermal systems work in Michigan winters?2025-11-26T01:28:17+00:00

Yes. Geothermal performs exceptionally well in cold climates like Michigan because the ground stays at a relatively stable temperature year-round, even when the air outside is freezing.

How long do geothermal systems last?2025-11-26T01:28:01+00:00

• Indoor heat pump: typically 20–25 years
• Ground loop piping: 50+ years
Geothermal is designed as a long-term, high-efficiency solution.

How much can I save with a geothermal system?2025-11-26T01:27:42+00:00

Homeowners can often reduce their heating and cooling bills by up to 70% with geothermal, depending on their current system and energy usage.

How does geothermal heating and cooling work?2025-11-26T01:27:25+00:00

Geothermal systems use the Earth’s relatively constant underground temperature to heat and cool your home. A heat pump moves heat between your home and the ground via buried piping, providing extremely efficient comfort year-round.

Why is my AC making loud or unusual noises?2025-11-26T01:27:05+00:00

Unusual noises may indicate:
• A failing blower motor
• Loose parts or panels
• Worn bearings
• Issues with the outdoor compressor
If you hear grinding, screeching, or banging, turn the system off and contact us for a diagnosis.

How long does a central AC system typically last?2025-11-26T01:26:46+00:00

With proper maintenance, most central air conditioning systems last around 12–18 years in Michigan’s climate.

Why is my air conditioner blowing warm air?2025-11-26T01:26:31+00:00

Warm air can be caused by low refrigerant, a frozen coil, dirty filters, or a failing compressor. Turning the system off and scheduling a service call can prevent further damage.

Why isn’t my heat keeping up when it’s really cold outside?2025-11-26T01:26:14+00:00

Common causes include:
• Clogged or dirty filter
• Thermostat problems or incorrect settings
• Blocked or closed vents
• Undersized or aging equipment
• Ductwork issues
A quick system evaluation from our technicians can pinpoint the issue and recommend solutions.

How often should my furnace be serviced?2025-11-26T01:25:40+00:00

We recommend a professional tune-up once a year, ideally before winter. Regular maintenance helps:
• Prevent breakdowns during cold weather
• Extend the life of your equipment
• Keep your system running safely and efficiently

Why does my furnace smell like burning dust?2025-11-26T01:25:24+00:00

A light “burning dust” smell is normal the first time you turn your furnace on for the season — dust has collected on the heat exchanger and is burning off. However, if you smell burning plastic, smoke, or an electrical odor, shut the system off and contact us right away.

Where else can I find heating and cooling information?2018-09-25T04:52:01+00:00
Why are rating numbers important?2025-11-26T13:50:30+00:00

Rating numbers indicate the efficiency of heating and air conditioning equipment and are directly related to the amount of energy a specific model uses. The higher the rating, the more efficient the product, and the lower your energy bills can be. The federal government establishes rating guidelines and sets minimum efficiency levels. For cooling equipment, the rating is SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio), for heat pumps, the rating is HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor) and for gas furnaces the rating is AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency).

How often should I change my furnace filter?2018-09-25T04:37:31+00:00
Check your furnace filter every month, especially during heavy use months (winter & summer). If the filter looks dirty after a month, change it. At a minimum, change the filter every 3 months. A dirty filter will slow down air flow and make the system work harder to keep you warm or cool — wasting energy and money. A clean filter will also prevent dust and dirt from building up in the system — leading to expensive maintenance and/or early system failure.
